Despite the name, your audience doesn't necessarily need an iPod to receive a podcast. They can listen to podcasts on a computer or on most MP3 players.

Podcasting works by delivering online audio content via an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. Fortunately, you don't need to know much about RSS or audio files or even iPods to become a podcaster. Turnkey software and Internet resources make podcasting inexpensive, easy and accessible to all. There are three simple steps to creating your own business podcast:

1. Create an audio file.

2. Add your file to an RSS feed.

3. Post your podcast on your Web site and on podcast directory sites.

Here are the steps for creating your own podcast:

Record your podcast

A computer microphone and some readily available software is all you need to get started.

Resources: Audacity is free software for audio and recording. Use a low-cost service like FeedForAll to create your RSS feed. To reach a wide audience, submit your podcast to iTunes or Podcast Alley.

Reach your customers

Regular, interesting podcasts can keep you in front of your clients. Tell them via email that your podcast is live and let them know that they can receive it automatically and listen any time.

Resources: Ipodder, PodFeeder and Doppler deliver podcasts to subscribers at no charge to you or them.

Show your authority and expertise in your business

Use of regular podcasts can promote your company's expertise and enhance your image as a thought leader in your field. But if you hope to be heard by the masses, you'll need to submit your podcast to directories.

Resources: FeedBurner helps publicize and optimize your podcast to maximize distribution.

Deliver content that's customized and flexible

Your podcasts can feature product info or tutorials, interviews with executives, talk shows, commentaries, or other information designed to engage your customers.

Resources: For more ideas on how you can use podcasts, visit Podcasting Tools.

Put a personal face on your business

The very nature of podcasting is up-close and personal, allowing you to talk one-on-one with your customers. You can use your own voice, tone and passion to communicate your message.

Resources: Besides Audacity, Mixcraft software can help you record your podcast and sound more professional.

Finally, here are a few more tips and tactics:

- Be concise, relevant and on subject in each show. Most podcasts are six to seven minutes long, although some are more like traditional, 30-minute radio shows.

- Use your podcast in conjunction with your blog. Both should be consistent with your brand.

- Avoid advertising in your podcast and stay away from a hard-sell approach.

- Be consistent. Decide on a podcasting schedule and stick with it.

Article Source: http://www.articlerich.com

TV writer/producer Lou Bortone is "The Online Video Guy," who gives small businesses the tools for creating their own online video content. A google search yields 124 million hits—putting it at par with it’s sister phenomenon “blogging”. In fact, podcasting in many cases is used exactly for that purpose…audio/video blogging. But I am getting ahead of myself.
Podcasting uses the same technology that most bloggers use to get exposure—RSS. RSS or “Rich Site Summary/Real Simple Syndication”(choose your poison) is essentially used to broadcast the blogging contents. The RSS is versatile enough to accommodate image, data, video or audio files. Essentially podcasting is an audio file in the RSS feed's enclosure tag. The RSS version 2.0 supports the current Podcasting specifications and is the widely used format.
The podcast audience gets the latest stuff of their interest on their media player. It’s time shifted and place shifted, so they can listen to it at the time and place of their choice. This beat radio and even streaming radio. The technology works with all contents-music as well as audio blogs. It’s the latter use which has garnered the most interest.
In general, the entry fee for the podcasting is low. All one needs is a decent quality microphone to ensure quality recording. Of course, one can get fancy, with audio editing software, sound effects, and such, but ultimately if the content is interesting/useful one can build a loyal audience. Think Craig’s list Vs. the-fancy-shmancy-flash-site.
So why bother with podcasting? Taking the blogging analogy ( www.insurgentjg.com ) further, the podcasters are a pioneering bunch. The main stream talk radio shows have not got into the act just yet, just like the main stream media does not use the blogging format(as much as it should)—leaving the field open for podcasting enthusiasts. While a lot of content may not be polished, some of us are looking for “Reality” version of things. The anonymous blogger writing from her basement can(and sometimes does) command a loyal readership that would make the editor of New York Times blanch. Similarly, the podcaster can have an audience rivaling political commentators and MTV DJ’s. It’s all about the value the podcaster provides to the audience. The meritocracy of internet ensures that only the cream rises to the top.
What is required to Publish Podcasts(Podcaster).
Some simple steps and you are on your way to be a podcaster:
1. Record your audio content in a file and post it to your website.
2. Download a News aggregator or RSS reader which is RSS 2.0 compliant. If you are blessed with an IPod or similar device, even that may not be necessary.
2. Insert the URL of the podcast feed into the news aggregator or podcast management software.
3. When new items appear in the category of your interest, you can analyze the narrative and listen to what you really find interesting.
Podcasting as a field is new enough that it’s still not that difficult to get exposure. A microphone, some diskspace on a server and talent is all you need to get going. Unfortunately the exponential growth of the medium and potential for marketing and advertisement ensures that the cacophony of spam may drown your podcasts. Now is the time to create that loyal audience. You have to be innovative and make sure that your clients or customers are kept up-to-date with your ideas. A normal day usually starts with a search for answers. More often than not the question is how can I grow my business? How can I gain market share? The answer is pretty simple and everyone in this competitive marketing world knows for a fact that innovation is crucial for conversion of your prospect customer base as your clients.

So is pod casting an answer to do this efficiently? Will pod casting do the miracle for you? Let's learn more about pod casting and answering the above questions for you.

The traditional marketing tools such as radio and television have proven time and again that they are most effective to propagate your product or service. Once you have identified your target audience it's as simple as choosing the channel and the program to communicate your product or service with. The large reach of these mediums tag hits and have huge success rate. The traditional and strong marketing methods still prevail, but with the advent of mobile computing and devices like palm pilots and I-pods have reinvented the definition of mass marketing. These internet enabled, handheld devices have revolutionized the way marketing looks at new media.

And the amazing part of this innovation is Anyone Can Use This!

Pod casting is the process of sharing audio/audio content from WebPages to potential customers. Now that the hand held devices have taken off the restriction of a fixed desktop or a laptop now pod casts are becoming the buzz word in marketing industry. .

Pod casting uses an XML based technology called RSS. An RSS file is the most used file to pod cast your content and consists of date, time, titles, and other information about the content that is being downloaded into the pod cast device. The way this works is very simple. Your pod cast content is placed on the web already and when users login to receive the RSS feed your content is moved into the I pod or other players of customer's automatically. This way you can reap the benefits of this innovative and economical communication solution.

There are lots of websites, which currently allow you to pod cast. This doesn't cost a lot of money and the visibility you get is very high and so pod casting is soon turning out to be a very effective way of communication to a set of preferred target audiences.

Pod Cast Marketing – Is it effective?

In the marketing world it's a new day each day and creativity is a must for any winner. Will the new communication mediums have the power to influence public opinion? Will politicians be the victims of technology, or will they use it to their benefit? Will one party benefit from the use of the technology more than another? All reasonable questions, considering the role technology plays in today's society.

The staggering distribution numbers, through channels like iTunes, YouTube, or podcasting websites, indicate that technology could play a critical role in the upcoming elections. Technology could be the deciding factor in the 2008 US Presidential race, and while distribution has never before been as accessible as it is to today's politicians and political candidates, politicians have far less control over the news and media than their counterparts in previous years.

The curious need not look any further than YouTube to find the latest political constituents being haunted by their own words and dogged by their past missteps. Today's politicians have far less control of the news media and messages associated with their candidacy.

The Internet and technology is positioned to play a huge role in elections. Whether that truly occurs remains to be seen.

What Will Technology Affect?

Fundraising
Raising revenue for a political campaign is one of the biggest hurdles the candidates have to overcome in order to make a successful political run. We saw this when Howard Dean initially soared to fame as the result of grass roots Internet donations filling his coffers. Yet technology was also Dean's downfall, as the result of the "Dean Scream" video getting excessive play time on the Internet and other broadcast media outlets. The recorded spectacle is said to be what led voters to abandon this overzealous candidate.

The Power Of Political Pundits
With podcasting, everyone is a journalist, regardless of their credentials or credibility. Technology has given self-proclaimed political pundits a pulpit from which they can spread their message. How much these political pundits will be able to influence political campaigns and election results is still unclear.

Never Say Never
Political videos of nearly every 2008 presidential candidate can be found on YouTube. In many of the posted videos, candidates are engaged in old speeches, contradicting their current political positions. Politicians have yet to learn that their words may come back to haunt them, and it appears that many politicians have ghosts from years past that can be found in the YouTube video library. Older political videos are causing problems for candidates whose positions have changed over the course of their careers. The accessibility of the audio and video clips, and wide media distribution, is breeding distrust amongst voters who support candidates who have had a change of heart.

Pushing A Cause To The Forefront
Evident in the hit movies "Fahrenheit 9/11" by liberal filmmaker Michael Moore, and "An Inconvenient Truth" by environmental evangelist Al Gore, these films not only brought in millions of dollars in revenues, but both movies also received Hollywood accolades and raised attention for the issues featured.

Technology appeals to a specific demographic: the affluent, the educated, and the young. And while a YouTube video may not sway the Grandparents in the crowd, the youngest voters are listening. Does technology have the power to change the face of politics? The youth in America are not currently an active voting block, but that younger generation will age, and it's only a matter of time before technology plays a critical role in elections.

Indie Artists Should Podcast

Independent artists have long struggled to gain recognition and attract an audience. Without the backing of a major label it can be very difficult for independent artists to obtain radio play time, that is, until now. Podcasting a revolutionary new medium, has opened new distribution channels for independent artists. Podcasting is the process of distributing audio files using the RSS format and has become very popular with the younger generations.

With the use of technology, independent artists have a unique opportunity available, using technology they can significantly expand the exposure of their music.

Why should a musician podcast?

1. Distribution Channel
The power of distribution is no more evident then when looking at the iTunes Music Store, with independent podcasts garnering millions of downloads. Notoriety has been gained and celebrities have been made. Independent artists who produce podcasts should include iTunes tags in their podcast feed and list their podcast in the iTunes Music Store. A listing in the iTunes Music Sore will significantly increase a podcaster's exposure.

2. Gain Interest and Fans
Independent artists can attract listeners by creating a podcast with a music sampling.

3. Send Demos
Indies always searching for the brass ring or wanting to be signed by a big label can use podcasts for their commercial demos. Artists can promote their podcast and direct agents and labels to the demos as an inexpensive means to get signed.

4. Get Gigs
Night clubs looking for entertainment will listen to podcasts to find bands or artists who target their demographic. Clubs will have an idea of what to expect from the artist. Musicians might find themselves with additional booking as their podcast becomes a marketing tool.

5. Promote Gigs at Establishments
Establishments will be more willing to sign artists who will bring new listeners to their club. Musician can use their podcast to provide additional promotion for any booked events. The additional publicity might be the deciding factor, if the club management is torn between booking two artists.

6. Build a Community
Developing a community is critical to an artist's success. Podcasting and consistent communication with loyal listeners will help encourage and strengthen a musician's fan base.

7. Sell CDs
Shareware has long been a staple in the software community, adopted as a marketing method, to allow users the opportunity to sample software prior to making a purchase decision. Independent artists can use podcasting to sell their CDs. Sample music files or single songs that are given freely will encourage listeners to purchase a CD with additional songs.

8. Reinforce Listener Loyalty
Loyal listeners or "groupies" who listen to podcasts will share the podcasts with friends and extend the bands reach.

9. Announcements
Podcasting can be used as an additional vehicle to announce new songs, albums, interviews or other information relevant to the independent artists performances.

10. Cross Promo Opportunities
Bands who have a similar genre can exchange adverts in their podcasts and increase both of their fan bases. Quid pro quo promotion that costs little but can result in huge returns.

Independent artists have a unique opportunity available to them. Podcasting is a fairly new medium that has far reaching distribution opportunities. Independent artists were once restricted by geography, playing at local clubs to increase their base. Podcasting has no borders.

Producing a podcast can mean the difference between success and failure for an independent artist.

Indie Artists Should Podcast

Independent artists have long struggled to gain recognition and attract an audience. Corporate podcasts can be very polished audio productions while hobbyist experimenting with podcasts may have dogs barking and children's screaming in the background.

After all it is the content that matters right? Well no, not exactly remember when black and white televisions could "kind of" tune into stations it was just a hazy effect. How many continued to watch the grainy or flipping screen. Rarely was the show so riveting did it hold the interest of the viewer. Unless of course the content was forbidden to young eyes (as in the playboy channel).

Sound Quality Matters
Having a decent quality microphone is critical to ensure that the audio recording is a quality recording. Filter out extraneous noises, or select a recording area that will not be Interrupted. Use recording software that will allow you to edit out audio snippets that are subpar.

If you generally record in the same location a fixed mic is generally better. If you do field recording you will want to consider a cordless microphone.

Intro and Extro (Outro)
Using music to introduce and end the podcast adds polish to the overall show. You can licensee rights to podsafe music that will allow you to use music in a royalty free capacity. If your show is popular you might find that the music is linked to your show, as part of your brand, so you will want to choose it carefully. There are a number of podsafe music directories where podcasters can purchase music that is royalty free, meaning there would not be any recurring charges when using the music in a podcast.

Theme Music
As with intro and outros, theme music can add a level of professional to a podcast. It is illegal to use copyrighted music in your podcast unless you own the copyright or license it through the proper channels. Consider visiting one of the podsafe music directories to locate music that is reflective of your show.

Edit
It is not enough to record the audio for a show. Polished podcasts are produced using audio editing software. The editing software allows podcasters the ability to filter unwanted noises and edit any dead air or parts of the show you dislike.

Catchy Relevant Name
Keep in mind that many listeners will find your podcast through a web page or search engine. Your podcasts title should be catchy and related to the podcasts content. The podcasts title should contain a slogan that conveys the general theme of the show.

Add iTunes Tags
The Apple iTunes Music Store has a huge audience. Podcasters can tap the iPod audience by adding the appropriate iTunes tags to their podcast. There are software applications that will walk you through the process of adding iTunes to podcast feeds. After adding the tags simply submit your podcast for inclusion in the iTunes Music Store. The listing should appear within a few weeks.

Spin-It
Podcasts are now a dime a dozen. In order to truly stand out the show needs a unique angle, a unique view, an interesting perspective, something different from all the other podcasts out there.

Logo / Image
Add an image to your podcast feed, the extra step will add a bit of polish to your show. Many podcatchers or RSS readers will display the image beside the podcast listing. The visual effect will make your podcast jump out of the list.

Understand Demographic
Who are Your Listeners? Understanding your audience will allow you to cater to them. Know the demographics of your target audience. A well-defined target audience will also help you find show sponsors or advertisers.

SEO for Podcasts
Optimize your podcast shows summary for search engines. Be sure to include keywords or related resources in the podcast feed. This will allow search engines to spider the text for words that relate to your podcast.

Transcript or Show Notes
Many podcasters neglect to include a show transcript, podcasters should consider including detailed show notes or a transcript of the show in the description of the podcast feed. If you display the feed this will increase the likelihood that those interested will find your show in the search engines and podcast directories.

Podcast Length
The show should only be as long as necessary, without being a rambling. Most listeners will have a limited amount of time to listen to podcasts, as a result they will be selective about what they listen to.

Keep it Regular
Create a recording schedule and stick to it, if you don't have time to do it properly then skip a show, your listeners will appreciate that you did not waste their time.

Podcasts are becoming more and more commonplace, distinguish your podcast by polishing it and properly publicizing it.

Making Money for Podcasts

Making Money for Podcasts
Podcasts started out as fun ways for ambitious garage DJs, independent musicians and talk show hosts, who had not ventured into radio broadcasting as a way to show their stuff and make a name for themselves. What started as a hobby for many, has turned into a lucrative profession for some.

Not surprisingly, podcasters, just like radio stations, have looked for ways to profit from their on-air dialogue.

Sponsorship
Many podcasters profit from their podcast by having companies related to the show's content sponsor the podcast in its entirety. Sponsors might also sponsor specific themed shows or show segments for a fixed fee.

Sponsorship is usually indicated by an audio advertisement. Audio advertisements are typically 10 to 20 seconds in length, and they may be inserted into the podcast show at any point. Podcasts can also include what would be considered traditional commercials very similar to what is heard in a radio broadcast. Like radio broadcasters, podcasters can recruit advertisers directly that wish to advertise, or they can work with an ad agency to locate potential advertisers. Not be left out, video podcasters can also insert video advertisements into shows to raise revenue, similar to what would be seen as a television commercial.

Advertisements in Podcast Transcripts
Many podcasters create transcripts of podcasts, and post the transcript in an RSS feed. Podcasters will often sell advertisements to be included in the podcast show transcript. Podcasters can recruit advertisers directly and negotiate the advertisement price or they can use a 3rd party network that will automatically insert advertisements into their podcast feed. The most effective advertisements, are not surprisingly those that are contextual and related to the podcasts contents.

There are a number of third party services that work with podcasters to match advertising partners with podcasters. The advertising agencies attempt to match advertising content with the podcast's content. Pheedo and AdSense for RSS Feeds are two of the more popular third party ad serving platforms for RSS feeds. When using Pheedo advertisers select the categories of their advertisements, the categories narrow the types of advertisements that will appear in their feed. Google Adsense for Feeds uses contextual language in the feed to place the advertisements that most closely relate to the RSS feed's contents. If you are using Google AdSense for Feeds and wish to improve the advertisement's relevance be sure to include as much about the podcast show in the feed description. This will mean that Google will be able to use the language in your RSS feed to serve related advertisements.

Publicize other Ventures
Many podcasters use podcasts as a covert advertisement. They use the podcast to attract interest to other products or services through which they receive a revenue share. Some podcasters promote products through affiliate programs or they own multiple ventures and use podcasts to subtly promote their ventures.

Subscription Based Podcasts
No, not Cerious radio, some podcasters have moved to a subscription model where subscribers pay a weekly, monthly or annual fee to subscribe to the podcast show's contents. Podcasters can build a subscriber base and profit from the podcast subscriptions and renewals.

Communication
Other podcasters see no need to profit directly from the podcast. The podcast is used as a means to communicate, establish brand and name recognition. Podcasters can create good will in their industry by publicizing consumer alerts, health warnings or other relevant and valuable information.

Additional Benefits - Part of the Whole
Some companies may promote their product or service by offering podcasts as an added benefit. In other words the podcasters are not selling the podcast in itself, but customers receive access to the podcast as part of something larger. Many organizations have found that providing a podcast to members in addition to other member benefits is a great way to increase membership.

Podcasting once defined as a geek hobby, has now spawned an industry. Entrepreneurs have adopted traditional advertising mediums to the podcasting technology as a way to make some extra money.

Audio Recording Tips

Before you begin podcasting develop a plan and a format for your show. Determine the focus of your podcast and what types of guests you would like to interview. Time spent planning your show will contribute to it's success.

Location, Location, Location
When you are producing a podcast on a regular basis it is important that you select an appropriate location for the recording to take place. The location should be free of external distractions and relatively quiet. It is easiest if you use the same location each time, that way the equipment can remain in place and will not require moving or setup each time you produce a show.

The room should have a carpet or furniture that will absorb echoes and dampen the sound. The room should also have a door, so that you will not have unexpected interruptions. Reduce extraneous noise by turning off fans or any equipment. Consider hanging a note on the door, so that you will not be disturbed while recording.

Recording Away from Home
When taking your podcast on the road it is equally important that the quality of the podcast is not compromised for the sake of portability. Consider using a directional microphone or finding a quiet alcove for interviews when on the road.

Equipment
Make every effort to minimize background noise, at the very least use software that will allow you to edit out extraneous noises that occur while recording.

While Recording
Before you begin recording sample different volumes and microphone distances and determine what levels result in the best recordings. To save time, do a test recording and listen to it prior to every show, this will help you catch anything that was inadvertedly unplugged. Spending a little more money on your microphone goes a long way.

Permissions and Contracts
The legalities surrounding audio recording are a bit muddled. Regardless of what the legalities are in your region, it is best that you request permission prior to recording anyone!

When requesting an interview with a specific individual, be sure to tell them the topic of the show and give them an idea what types of questions to expect. Let them know how long the interview is planned for and the format of the show. Let prospective interviews know whether the broadcast will be edited or will the interview be broadcast live. It is always a good idea to provide interviewees a link to previous interviews. If the interviewee will require any specific equipment or software, provide them ample notice and do a test run to ensure that everything is working properly.

Interviews
A little preparation goes a long way; if you have an interview scheduled, be sure to adequately prepare. Make sure that you can accurately pronounce the interviewers proper name, and ask them prior to the interview how they would like to be addressed. Research the interviewee and come up with a list of questions. In some cases it might be appropriate to provide the interviewee the list of questions prior to the interview, this will not only help them prepare but help them relax and prepare for their on-air debut. If you prefer not to tip your hand in providing the questions prior to the interview, then be sure that you have an idea of what their reaction and responses will be. Follow up questions should based on the interviewee's reactions to your queries. While broadcasting, use your research notes as talking points to direct the conversation. When you guest is talking let them explain their point of view; don't interrupt them unless there is a point to clarify.

Biographies of show guests should be included in the show notes or on the shows websites. Request the interviewee send a photo to be included along with the biography. After the show is published be sure to thank the interviewee and provide them a link to the finished interview along with instructions on how they can listen to the show.

Have Fun
Use voice inflections to add emotion and passion to your comments and questions. Use music between segments not only does theme music create a brand and audio identity, it also helps transition one segment to another. Intro and outros can soften a podcast and give it a little extra polish. Introduce your podcast at the beginning and end of the show. Remind listeners who and what they are listening too. This is your opportunity to establish your audio brand. And finally have fun, listeners will be able to tell if your podcast is a labor of love or a painful rendition, keep your spirits up and your mood light!

Podcasting Quiz

How much do you know about podcasting? Take the podcast quiz and test your knowledge.

Question: Are there any size limitations to podcasts?

Answer: There are no maximums or minimums when it comes to podcast size. Obviously, the larger files might intimidate listeners with a slow connection. Podcasts can be successful at any size, generally wise podcasters balance the file size and the quality of their show.

Question: What are ID3 Tags?

Answer: ID3 tags consist of meta data that describe the contents of the audio file (typically ID3 tags relate to MP3 files). ID3 tags generally contain information related to the audio file, including things like title of the audio file, the artist, album, or other relevant information. There is speculation that podcasting search engines and directories will use the information contained in the ID3 tags to categorize, search, and group podcasts in the future.

Question: Are Podcasts are always in the RSS 2.0 format?

Answer: No, while RSS 2.0 was the first version to support enclosures, RSS version 1 also now includes an enclosure tag for podcasting. While the current RSS 1.0 supports podcasting, RSS 2.0 is by far the more popular format for those podcasting. This is not only because RSS 2.0 was the first standard to support enclosures, but also due to the fact that Apple iTunes uses RSS 2.0 for it's podcasts.

Question: Can podcasts be restricted to a specific group of listeners?

Answer: Yes, while there are no provisions in the RSS 2.0 specification for passwords or protecting files, as with any web documents, podcasts can be password protected by placing it in a subdirectory. You can use any security mechanism available on the http server to protect the entire feed or the actual audio file.

Question: Are there any fee based podcasts?

Answer: Yes, while the model has not yet been widely adopted, some publishers have experimented with providing fee based "commercial-free" podcasts. Rather than charging advertisers to advertise in the podcasts, the publishers have monetized the podcasts by charging listeners for the contents of the podcast. Typically the audio file is password protected and only subscribers are able to download or listen to the file. The model is similar to that which the cable shows HBO/Showtime use, where they charge a fee for premium content. It is likely that educational podcasts, or language lessons will adopt this model.

Question: What file formats are acceptable in a podcast?

Answer: It really depends on what your definition of a podcast is. Initially the term podcast referred to any RSS feed that contained an audio file as an enclosure. The usage of the term podcast has expanded and now many people consider any RSS feed that includes a file in the enclosure field to be a podcast. In other words, many people use the term podcast to refer to an RSS feed that has a video file, or power point presentation or other enclosure.

Technically you can put just about any type of file in the enclosure field. If you are referring to a traditional audio podcast, for the sake of compatibility, most podcasters use either MP3 or M4a. The added benefit of using an MP3 or M4a file is that both formats are also supported by iTunes, which allow people to expand their podcast with iTunes tags and include it in the iTunes Music Store.

Podcasting for Faith

Create Podcast Sermons
The Internet has made spreading faith significantly easier. In the past, community residents were limited to the churches, temples and houses of worships that were available within driving distances. Coordinating schedules with sermons could be challenging for busy families.

The Internet has opened the doors to a diverse congregation that exists beyond the traditional borders that communities have become accustom to. Using technology as a communication medium has not been lost on spiritual leaders and many have embraced the Internet as a medium to spread their faith. It is rare to find a house of worship that does not have a website or Internet presense. Expanding upon this theme, parishes looked to podcasting to further expanded the reach of their spiritual counselors and ministers. Many preachers record homilies, hymns, services, sermons or gospel teachings, for parishioners and interested listeners.

Podcasting allows followers to listen to mass or sermons on their way to work or at a time and place of their choosing. Integrating technology into spiritual messages has become a modern solution to chaotic schedules in an online world.

Audio Recording
The first step to creating a religious or spiritual podcasts is to record the sermon or material. There are a number of both hardware and software solutions that facilitate the recording of audio content. Many Churches and Ministries already record many of their sermons. If that is the case, its just a matter of properly formatting the file for podcast distribution. In order to maximize the sermons compatibility, the recorded file should be saved as an MP3 file and transferred to the Internet.

Create Podcast
A podcast feed is an RSS feed that contains audio enclosures in the feed's items. To create a podcast, the URL of the audio files must be placed in the enclosure field of the RSS feed. RSS feeds can be constructed manually by using a text editor.
Most desktop podcast solutions provide free evaluation versions that can be used for 30 days. This allows users to determine if the software meets their needs prior to making a purchase decision. In other words, you can create an entire podcast using a free download, if you wish to continue to update the podcast with the software each week or month you will need to purchase the software.

Once you have constructed a podcast, you will need to transfer the RSS feed to your server. This can be done using a standard FTP client (FTP clients are often integrated into desktop podcast creation applications). The feed is usually placed in the domain's root directory like this: http://www.mydomain.com/nameoffeed.xml or a sub directory like this http://www.mydomain.com/rss/nameoffeed.xml .

Promoting Podcast
Now that a new communication medium is available for followers, it is important that you properly promote the podcast as a communication channel. Be sure to share information related to the podcast with parishioners, placing notices in the congregations weekly bulletins or monthly newsletters. Add a mention of the podcast on your community website.

In order to increase exposure of a religious podcast, religious organizations can submit their podcasts to podcasting directories and RSS search engines. This can be done manually. Just as you would submit the URL of a website or web page to a search engine, or you can use software to automate the process. There is even a portal specifically designed for religious and spiritual podcasts.

Fair Use and Podcasting

As the Internet matures, users and governments are struggling to manage controversial issues. Lets face it, the Internet did not exist when the US copyright laws were written;let us not forget, while many countries respect copyright laws, the Internet is global without a governing body. There are not only different laws, rules and regulations, but also jurisdiction issues. RSS didn't exist when copyright laws were written either. While ardent supporters feel any content in a feed can be syndicated, other equally fervent publishers contend that original works are just that--original works, and in many countries protected by copyright laws.

Much of the Internet is uncharted territory. There is no single agencies that has complete control over content or censorship, and it is unlikely that there will ever be a recognized body that regulates and agrees to terms and conditions to govern the online world. At this point, the location of webhosts and companies owning domains dictate what laws that are observed. In other words, if a company in the US or UK is violating a copyright and their host is in the US or UK, it will be easy to enforce copyright laws in the event of a violation and have the website content pulled. If the website is located on a server in a region that does not recognize or acknowledge the rights of a copyright holder, the web host will be less likely to cooperate in removing the offending content.

Regardless of whether you manage an RSS feed or syndicate existing feeds, it is a good idea to become familiar with what constitutes fair use under copyright laws. Fair use allows portions of copy written material to be reproduced or republished without the consent or permission from the copyright holder.

Determining protection can be complex. Fair use is often disputed, and it is difficult for legal scholars to understand, and even more difficult for publishers to decipher. When determining fair use there are a few questions that help determine whether a copyright violation has occurred. The questions you should ask are:

Is the work protected?
How much material is copied?
What is the nature of the work that was copied?
Is the individual reproducing the work profiting?
How was the original works affected by being copied?

When attempting to determine copyright protection, it is important to remember that the US copyright law does not require a notice to appear in order for creative works to be protected. The fact that the work is unique and is "created" is enough to ensure protection.

Not surprisingly, creative works that contain a higher level of complexity have a higher degree of protection. The fair use doctrine is part of US copyright law and it allows for publishers to incorporate some copyrighted material into works without the expressed permission of the copyright holder.

How Pocasting Works

It has been said that in October of 2004 a Google search returned less than 6,000 results for the term "podcasting". Today, a similar search yields more than 857,000 results. Like the blogging phenomenon, podcasting has come out of nowhere and attracted an enthusiastic following.

While some traditional radio talk shows have begun providing podcasts of their regularly-scheduled broadcasts, the bulk of the podcasts that have cropped up tend to be independent broadcasters who have a fascination with technology. As a result, some podcasts are a little rough around the edges. Nonetheless, it is clear that the technology provides a significant opportunity and potential. Even nay-sayers believe that podcasting is more than a passing fad.

Podcasting is RSS that is used to syndicate and distribute audio files. Podcasting contains an audio file in the RSS feed's enclosure tag. An enclosure tag is used in RSS feeds to include certain types of files. The file contained in an enclosure tag can be: an image, a data file, a video file, or an audio file. Podcasting specifically refers to RSS feeds that contain audio files in their enclosure tag. The RSS version that currently supports enclosure tags is RSS version 2.0. All podcasts are currently created using this specification.

The benefit to podcasting is the fact that users can sync content with their media player and listen at a time and a place of their choosing: radio on demand. And while this technology is not limited to music, it seems to be the area that has received the most attention.

Podcasting is generally inexpensive to implement. Investment in a good quality microphone will ensure that the recording is audible. Depending on knowledge and experience, some podcasters invest in audio conversion, compression and audio editing software applications. Also, web space bandwith and software to create the feed for the podcast is needed. All in all, the initial expense is relatively small.

Publishing Podcasts
In three simple steps, independent broadcasters can have their voice heard:

1. Publishers create audio content, posting it on a website for listeners.

2. Create or edit an existing RSS feed including a link to the audio file in the "enclosure" field of an RSS 2.0 feed, uploading it to a website.

3. Tell the world that a podcast is available.

Listen to Podcasts:
In three simple steps web surfers can listen to podcasts:

1. Downlaod a news aggregator or RSS reader that supports podcasting or sync a wireless device like an iPod with your computer.

2. Enter the URL of the podcast feed into the news aggregator or podcast management software.

3. As new items appear in the aggregator, review the podcast's description and listen to those that are of interest.

As popularity increases it is likely many voices will be drowned out, but for now, an independent broadcaster with a microphone and unlimited bandwith can make a name, create an image and change the world.

How Pocasting is Used

Although podcasting is new, it is well on its way to becoming a mainstream communication medium. Podcasting, simply put, is audio files that are delivered via RSS. Many people believe that podcasting is solely for the distribution of music files, but really, nothing could be further from the truth. This emerging method of audio file distribution has opened an array of marketing and communication opportunities to businesses. Currently, most who are familiar with podcasting are technically savvy, but it is clear that podcasting will be more than a passing fad as many businesses are adopting podcasting and employing it in unusual yet powerful ways. Podcasting can be used for talk shows, tutorials, music demos, educational training, stories, comedy clips, debates or even foreign language tutorials.

While RSS has had the capacity to include audio files for a few years, only recently have entrepreneurs made the conceptual leap, taking advantage of the new power held within this communication medium. In reality, podcasters cover the gamut; some are professional broadcasters, while others are obvious amateurs.

Podcasts are usually published with associated meta information that includes descriptive data about each specific audio file. This allows listeners to make a determination of which audio items are of interest. If listeners are using a news aggregator that supports podcasting, they will automatically receive updates in their feed reader or news aggregation software when a new podcast exists for a feed that they have subscribed to.

Why is podcasting so beneficial to the subscriber?
Unlike traditional radio, with podcasting the subscriber decides what content he/she receives. Podcasting is extremely useful to the subscriber because the user can easily receive information he/she would like, and listen to it when they want. The material, once downloaded, can be listened to and viewed on wireless handhelds, allowing subscribers to utilize time on the road.

Topic-specific radio talk shows with commentaries, interviews and debates can now be heard at a time and place of the listener's choosing. Consider the benefit of educational tutorials and foreign language instruction; lessons could be listened to during a work commute. Supplementary class lectures, step by step tutorials or walking guides are all possible using podcasting. An unlimited collection of books read aloud for elderly or visually-impaired listeners only scratch the surface of what is possible in the future of podcasting.

The fate of podcasting is in the hands of the subscribers. The subscriber can easily delete podcast feeds that do not satisfy their needs with the single tap of a button. Ultimately, the subscriber maintains control and determines what podcasts are deemed successful. This intrinsically builds in a quality control level and will ensure that the more innovative instructional and interesting podcast feeds survive.

The technology is fresh and, like the Internet, is opening doors to entrepreneurs. As podcasting evolves, users will find more creative kinds of audio content to deliver. The low barrier to entry has forced this new medium to the forefront, as businesses and individuals have really little to lose in adding podcasting as a communication channel.

What is Podcasting

Podcasting is quickly becoming a buzz word among the techie crowd. So what is podcasting, anyway? Podcasting is online audio content that is delivered via an RSS feed. Many people liken podcasting to radio on demand. However, in reality, podcasting gives far more options in terms of content and programming than radio does. In addition, with Podcasting, listeners can determine the time and the place, meaning they decide what programming they want to receive and when they want to listen to it.

Listeners can retain audio archives to listen to at their leisure. While blogs have turned many bloggers into journalists, podcasting has the potential to turn podcasters into radio personalities.
Podcasting can be used for:

1. Self-Guided Walking Tours - Informational content.

2. Music - Band promotional clips and interviews.

3. Talk Shows - Industry or organizational news, investor news, sportscasts, news coverage and commentaries.

4. Training - Instructional informational materials.

5. Story - Story telling for children or the visually-impaired.

Podcasting is the syndication of audio files using RSS. Podcasting works the same as a standard RSS feed reader or news aggregator, the only difference is that the feed you subscribe to contains an audio file in it. Instead of reading content in your RSS feed reader or aggregator, you can listen to the contents of your feed using a reader or aggregator that supports podcasting, or you can listen to them on an iPod or similar device. While podcasting was named for the iPod, you do not have to have an iPod to listen to a podcast. Podcasts can be displayed on websites with clickable links to audio files and many of the standard RSS readers, like FeedDemon's latest beta, have begun supporting audio enclosures.

The audio file that makes the feed a podcast rather than a standard RSS feed is contained in the 'enclosure' tag. The easiest way to think of this is as an e-mail attachment.

Although the "enclosure" tag is not new to RSS feeds and has been included in the RSS v2.0 specification for about four years, podcasting has only really been around since August of 2004.

Webmasters are finding creative ways to provide media-rich content. The syndication aspect and potential increase in audience size are an attractive lure. Listeners benefit from podcasting because, like RSS, podcasting is a means to publish content that ultimately gives the recipient the control over the information they want to see or hear.

Mobile Phone Softwares

A mobile is set to do the functionality which is embedded in it at the time of its manufacturing. The software which is embedded in it is known as software or firmware. A common mobile phone can not perform any functionality beyond the scope of that firmware. The firmware is designed and developed by the manufacturing company and is distinct for every model of the mobile phones. But in the modern mobile phones, which have more sophisticated operating systems support the installation of the third-party software. This is just like computer that a computer can perform some basic functionality but in order to get some additional functionality, some third-party softwares are installed.

Different Mobiles and Supported Softwares

Usually the software developed for one model of a mobile phone won't work on the other but the developers who develop the software make slight changes in the software so that they can run on the other models too. Also different companies may have their mobile phones based on different technology and firmware; therefore one particular software has to be developed for different platforms. Like one model of mobile phone can run java software on it, but the other is based on Symbian technology. Consequently the company will have to develop their software for both the platforms.

There is a format which provides the user to access all the functionalities of the handset, this format is called BREW. As this format allows full access to the functionalities of the handset therefore its development process is modified mainly by the software vendors. It is freely available but to run the software on the mobile hardware a digital signature is required which can be obtained by tools issued only to mobile phone manufacturer. This free kit is known as BREW SDK (Software Development Kits). To download this software (even after one gets the digital signature) on regular phone the software is tested by the Qualcomm (developers of BREW) with the help of their TRUE BREW testing software.

A Look on Available Third-Party Softwares

Nowadays there is a huge variety of softwares available for any given handset. Some of the softwares are free (freeware), others will have to be bought to use them. There are softwares available for every type of mobile users. For people who want to stay in touch with internet there are browsers and instant messenger clients available. There are a lot of games available which do not let you bore in your leisure time. For business professionals and students there are document viewers and editors which can let you use documents created in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office. For the artists and designers there are image viewers and editors. And some softwares are simply developed to be used for fun.

Mobile Games

Mobile Games have the biggest share in the softwares that are developed for the mobile phones. Mobile games are developed using platforms and technologies such as Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian OS, Macromedia's Flash Lite, Sun's J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition, recently re named simply 'Java ME'), Qualcomm's BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless). Other platforms are also available, but they are not so common. Java was initially the most common platform for mobile games; however its performance limitations have led to the adoption of various native binary formats for more sophisticated games.

Mobile softwares have simply enhanced the functionality of the mobile phones many folds. They make a dull device very interesting and useful.

Conclusion

A strange form of matter which piqued the curiosity of scientists at the end of the last century has grown into an enormous industry with a great variety of applications and is still growing. There are still unsolved physical problems in this area, despite the fact that researchers in the fifties had already withdrawn form this area, thus giving an interesting field for the pure scientist. The need for liquid crystal applications grew, requiring engineers specialized in this field. Statistics show that cathode ray tube displays in TVs and computer monitors will be overtaken by liquid crystal displays in the near future. More recent applications involve switchable windows that can be changed from clear and opaque with the flip of a switch, liquid crystal displays with wider viewing angles, and displays that can remain in use for years without the need of power.

Knowledge in the field of liquid crystalls is crucial for an understanding of biological membranes, thus biologists, medical researchers and pharmacists are also interested in liquid crystal research.

Silence

From 1945 to 1958 all was quiet on the liquid crystal front. No one could yet imagine how large a role liquid crystals would play in technical applications today.

In 1958 Glenn Brown, an American chemist, published an article in Chemical Reviews on the liquid crystal phase and subsequently sparked an international resurgence in liquid crystal research.

Foundations

Research in the area of liquid crystals burgeoned in the years after 1888. Some of the more important results are listed below.

The claim that a new phase of matter was found was challenged by important scientists like Walter Nernst and Gustav Tamman. They argued that the phenomena could be explained as an effect of an emulsion of two distinct phases or compounds. Further experiments by Lehmann and others supported his theory. Later theoretical work by Emil Bose also gave rise to arguments against the hypothesis of an emulsion.

Max Born suggested a theoretical description of liquid crystals as molecules with permanent electric dipoles. This theory unfortunately leads to faulty results.

In 1922 in Paris, France, Georges Freidel suggested the classification scheme which is used today with different phases of liquid crystals called nematic, smectic and cholesteric.

Carl Oseen in Sweden worked on elastic properties of liquid crystals and his results were used on the continuum theory by England's F.C. Frank. This theory is one of the basic theories to describe liquid crystals today.

The Order Parameter S was introduced to describe the order of liquid crystals.

Alfred Saupe, a German physicist, later working at Kent State University, worked together with his advisor Wilhelm Maier in Karlsruhe 1958 on his thesis ("Diplomarbeit"), a molecular theory of liquid crystals not involving permanent dipoles as Max Born's theory did. This work gave rise to the Maier-Saupe Theory, another well-known basic theory of liquid crystals.

A New Phase of Matter

Between 1850 and 1888, researchers in different fields such as chemistry, biology, medicine and physics found that several materials behaved strangely at temperatures near their melting points. It was observed that the optical properties of these materials changed discontinously with increasing temperatures. W. Heintz, for example, reported in 1850 that stearin melted from a solid to a cloudy liquid at 52°C, changed at 58°C to an opaque and at 62.5°C to a clear liquid. Others reported observing blue colors when compounds synthesized from cholesterol were cooled. Biologists observed anisotropic optical behavior in "liquid" biological materials, a behavior usually expected only in the crystal phase.

An important invention of the time was the heating state microscope by Otto Lehmann, a physicist from Karlsruhe, Germany. This microscope allowed control of the temperature of the sample. In a later version, with polarizers added, it became the standard equipment in every liquid crystal research laboratory.

In 1888, an Austrian botanist named Friedrich Reinitzer, interested in the biological function of cholesterol in plants, was looking at the melting behaviour of an organic substance related to cholesterol. (The chemical structure of cholesterol was still unknown. Today we know that the observed substance was cholesteryl benzoate). He observed, as W. Heintz did with stearin 38 years before, that the substance melted to a cloudy liquid at 145.5°C and became a clear liquid at 178.5°C. He repeated an earlier observation which showed that upon cooling the clear liquid, a brief appearance of blue color could be seen at the transition temperature, and that a blue violet color appeared just before crystallization. Discussion with Lehmann and others led to the identification of a new phase of matter called the liquid crystal phase.

Nematic Liquid Crystals

Nematics are polarizable rod-like organic molecules on the order of 20 Angstroms in length. Because of their tendency to organize themselves in a parallel fashion, they demonstrate interesting and useful optical properties; the digital watch you used to wear back in the 80's functioned using nematic liquid crystals. Today, many more useful and interesting properties of nematics are known and exploited.

Smectic Liquid crystals are different from nematics in that they have one more degree of orientational order than do the nematics. Smectics generally form layers within which there is a loss of positional order, while orientational order is still preserved. There are several different categories to describe smectics. The two best known of these are Smectic A, in which the molecules align perpendicular to the layer planes, and Smectic C, where the alignment of the molecules is at some arbitrary angle to the normal.

Basic Scientific Description

Normally, we consider matter to have three distinct states: solid, liquid, and gas. However, there are states of matter which do not meet the necessary requirements of any of these three categories. For example, a substances such as mayonnaise is somewhere between a liquid and a solid.

Liquid crystals are also not quite liquid and not quite solid. Physically, they are observed to flow like liquids, but they have some properties of crystalline solids. Liquid crystals can be considered to be crystals which have lost some or all of their positional order, while maintaining full orientational order. For example, imagine a large number of toothpicks put into a rectangular box and shaken. When you open the box, the toothpicks will be facing in about the same direction, but will have no definite spatial organization. They are free to move, but like to line up in about the same direction. This is a primitive model for nematic liquid crystals.

Website Design with Slideshows and Professional Banners

A well designed website is a key factor in the growth of a business and makes your online presence more effective. With prevailing market conditions real estate agents and real estate investors are more adapting to the changing and growing technology. Internet has become one of the primary medium of their change that has attained new heights of development.

In addition, as per the recent estimates, it is expected that online real estate presence in the coming year will be grown by $2 billion and this figure is assumed to be followed by $3 billion in the following year.

Exploring different avenues in real estate and using the online platform is important when market conditions are not very favorable. It also helps while market conditions behave uncertain. In this new era of real estate investing, professionals seem to become conscious of turning towards to other ventures including foreclosures, and collaborating with their online counterparts as a form of advertising and marketing. Above all, online real estate advertising is considered as one of the economical and successful advertising tools to get fruitful results as the number of internet savvy has been increasing day by day.

As a result, realtors have also adjusted to the changing needs and requirements of the market. Nowadays, realtors are not advertising on the internet but also posting their most picture-perfect homes because of market demand. Also, realtors believe that people are going for homes which are advertised on the internet. In fact, realtors are allocating most of their budgets to the online medium to get lure more buyers and sellers.

On the other hand, buyers and sellers also started trusting the internet for meeting their needs. It’s not a stretch to say that in the near future, sales receipts and other documentation we traditionally associate with a hard copy may be delivered electronically to individual e-mail addresses or accounts, even when purchased in person with cash.

So why the rush to replace hard copy documentation? Is it a natural evolution of the electronic age or perhaps an environmental concern? The truth of the matter has less to do with the message and more to do with the medium.

Paper, as a method of storing information, leaves a lot to be desired. While it may be more personable than a bit or a byte, paper is susceptible to loss or misplacement and damage from a variety of sources. Water, fire and smoke damage can erase years worth of documentation. The same can be said for electronic data, although electronic data can be copied, backed up and made less susceptible to compromise or alteration with relative ease.

That’s not to say that ease of use and environmental issues aren’t legitimate concerns for business as well. Electronic data can be accessed from anywhere in the world if it’s housed on an accessible, password protected network, which is far more convenient than waiting on a faxed or internally mailed document or documents. From an environmental standpoint, electronically generated documents are far more ecologically sound as they reduce paper consumption. Additionally, existing hard copy documentation can be recycled after the information has been transferred to the electronic medium.

Though unauthorized access to electronic data can be an issue, proper security precautions can reduce the threat level to almost non-existent. Using high level encryption during data transfers and conservative password policies will eliminate the majority of the problems associated with hackers and others who attempt to access data, internally or otherwise.

It’s interesting to note that the onset of the computer age will have a far greater impact on the tendencies of businesses to eventually follow the popularity of purely or majority electronic medium. When paper documents create a lag in the time it takes to conduct business, revenue is lost. Most businesses in most industries have to maintain a minimum level of technology to continue to be viable entities.

Is Linux Ready For Your Desktop?

If you have any involvement with Information Technology, you're probably already familiar with Linux as a server operating system. Indeed, for many applications Linux is an accepted and even preferred platform. Google has built and is expanding one of the world's largest cluster of Linux servers to host its pervasive search engine system. Major hardware vendors, including IBM and Hewlett-Packard, sell servers preloaded with Linux and provide premium support for the operating system. Oracle is the largest commercial database running on Linux with more than 80% market share. Successful commercial applications like VMware ESX are built on Linux foundations. And many of the largest Internet hosting providers run on Linux.

On the other hand, if your computer experience is limited to your own home PC, you may never have even heard of Linux and may be wondering what all the fuss is about. If that's the case, listen up because Linux may be coming to a desktop near you!

What is Linux?

Simply put, Linux is a computer operating system like the Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows. The difference is that Linux is open source; anyone can view, modify, and redistribute the underlying code. Further, while OS X is designed to run only on Apple hardware, and while Windows runs primarily on x86 processors from Intel and AMD, there are many distributions or flavors of Linux, compiled to run on a wide array of hardware, everything from high-end corporate servers and mainframes, to home PC's, to cell phones.

Linux began as a pet project of a Finnish university student, Linus Torvalds, in 1991 as an alternative to the server operating system Unix. He made it freely available to anyone who wished to modify it and it was quickly adopted and grew. Still, it remained primarily a server-based system. Few home users would have chosen its complex command-line interface over the comfortable and easy-to-use point-and-click GUI of the Macintosh or Windows.

However, Linux now also sports a graphical front-end and a plethora of user-friendly applications.

Going GUI

Since Linux is all about choice, it's not surprising that there are a number of graphical environments available. The two most popular that come preloaded on many distributions targeted for desktop or workstation use are Gnome and KDE. Both offer features home users have come to expect: menus, icons from which to launch applications and documents, desktop wallpaper, screen savers, trash icons, and the like.

Connecting to printers is a simple process of selecting the printer type from a menu and telling the system where to find it, either on a local port or a network queue. To print from most applications simply select File, Print. No surprises there.

Sharing folders is equally simple and relies upon standard protocols that interface well with Macintosh and Windows systems.

For security, you can create multiple user accounts; each user gets their own desktop they can customize as they wish. There's also a built-in firewall to protect you from Internet intruders.

Of course, most people are more interested in the applications they can run, rather than the underlying operating system. Here, Linux is in no way deprived.

Applications

For browsing the Internet, there's Mozilla's Firefox and Konqueror. For e-mail there's Thunderbird and Evolution. The popular OpenOffice.org suite provides typical office functionality including word processing, spreadsheet, database, drawing, and presentations. The Gimp and Inkscape offer advanced graphics capabilities. And there's a variety of utilities for burning CDs and DVDs, listening to music, watching videos, and chatting via services like AOL's Instant Messenger.

This list is by no means complete. There are thousands of open source applications for Linux; you'd be hard-pressed not to find one that could do what you need. But there are also many commercial applications available.

Drawbacks

If Linux offers so much of the same functionality as Windows, why isn't it more widely used? Why do many home and corporate users reject it?

Microsoft Windows, while it has many faults, has become so widespread in its use as to be nearly ubiquitous. It has become the de facto standard by which other systems are measured. For those people already familiar with and comfortable with Windows, anything else is a step back, even if it is faster, more intuitive, more stable, and more secure.

Also, it must be admitted, there are still situations where you may need to venture into the cryptic world of the Linux command shell. For those used to living with a mouse in one hand, typing commands like awk and grep at a flashing cursor is unacceptable.

And, while there are enough applications to satisfy all but the most demanding of users, there are a few notable exceptions. Microsoft Office is not available on Linux, and likely never will be. Adobe Photoshop is also missing. In both cases, nearly all of the functionality these two giants provide is available in other applications, but for some die hards, that's not good enough. While there are ways of running some Windows applications on Linux, they're not usually as fast or as stable -- or as easy to implement -- as native Linux applications.

The situation is even dimmer for games. While the console market -- PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox -- is growing, the PC and Mac game market is shrinking. The commercial Linux game market is even smaller. Oh, there are plenty of games for Linux, but most are modest efforts, with few of the heavy hitters widely available on other platforms. Those that have been ported to Linux are not always fully supported -- if they're supported at all -- by the original producer. For example, while you can purchase Quake 4 for Linux, don't expect id Software to help you get it running, a task not for neophytes or those who shy away from the command line.

Vendors

Despite any apparent drawbacks, some major vendors are actively promoting Linux on the desktop. Novell now offers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, while Red Hat offers Enterprise Linux WS, both targeted at corporations. Since users in this environment are likely to have a fixed set of applications without a heavy gaming need, Linux is often ideal. And a number of organizations are taking advantage of the potential savings offered by these open source options. Governments especially, under scrutiny for how they handle the public purse, are often quick to make the move. Among them are the cities of Largo, Florida, USA; Bristol, UK; and Bergen, Norway. They have each made their taxpayers happy with significant savings over the closed source, proprietary systems they used to use.

Choices

If you're a heavy gamer, then you'll probably want to stick with Windows or a dedicated console. If your focus is advanced graphics and video editing, then Linux may be an option, if you're willing to give up certain commercial applications. Otherwise, you'd be better off with a Macintosh. If you're just surfing the Internet, sending e-mail, writing letters, and editing spreadsheets, then Linux and the open source software that comes with many distributions will do everything you need.

On the other hand, if you don't want to ever see a command line or edit configuration files by hand, then Linux probably isn't for you just yet. But it may be soon.

Document Scanning and Management Systems: A Review

Document management systems let businesses store and search digital documents, whether they are scanned images or MS Office documents, PDF files or CAD drawings. Some have a web-based interface to let you view files online, while others have an installed client application for better speed and functionality. All of these solutions require a central database and storage server to hold the files and index information used for searching.

These document management systems require a few days in planning, installation, configuring and training. This is definitely time well spent, ensuring that a correct and optimal implementation at the outset will revolutionise the way in which any company works with its records.

This review highlights a range of proprietary document scanning and document management software, with key functions which they offer.

Systems to Store, Search and View Documents

PaperVision by DigiTech and CompuThink's ViewWise both provide fully featured, HIPAA-compliant (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) document management systems. Both of these systems can grow with company needs, and are affordable enough for small businesses yet powerful enough for large corporations too. Each offers some benefits that the other does not.

To take PaperVision first: this software suite includes a customisable application for searching and viewing, as well as a web interface. PaperVision also has workflow and report management modules which boost any return on investment by allowing the automation of document processes and eliminating pre-printed forms.

A "lite" version called PaperVision XPress offers a similar search interface as PaperVision Enterprise, but comes in at a lower cost, without the extra scalability, security and options.

The other fully featured in-house system featured here is ViewWise. This system is unique in that it is Java-based and can run on Windows/SQL Server as well as Novell, UNIX and Linux operating systems and Oracle database servers. ViewWise also has several key differences in the layout of its user-interface that many users prefer. This includes a folder view for browsing documents.

For a simple, low cost scanning front end for these document storage and retrieval systems, an interesting product is SimpleIndex ' which complements both. SimpleIndex is designed to interface directly with both PaperVision and ViewWise, and so provides a simple, low-cost automatic scanning front-end.

In fact, SimpleIndex also includes its own low-cost searching and viewing application that can be used for basic document management tasks, and so SimpleIndex can be used as a standalone document management system, or added to allow the search and viewing of documents on other workstations.

Another document management product is DocuLex WebSearch. This system is a different in that it can automatically index all documents folder contents, similar to the way in which Google Desktop operates. Networked users are able to search on values in filenames, file properties or document contents. Additionally, users can access files via a website ' a big advantage for remote workers operating outside the confines of the office building.

Web Hosted Document Management Solutions

The choice in products to allow web access to searchable document storage is wide.to give access to documents via the Internet. A reasonably priced system is Ricoh's DocumentMall which is based on EMC Documentum's Enterprise Content Management platform.

Digitech PaperVision described above, also provides a web interface with its document management server. This allows businesses to store its documents for access online. But an alternative from the same stable is to go for their ImageSilo dedicated hosted solution. ImageSilo has more features than Ricoh's DocumentMall, and so the monthly cost is higher..

DocuLex WebSearch has a small office (10 user) and unlimited user versions that provides web-based access to documents using your in-house servers and a Google Desktop style search interface.

CompuThink ViewWise web clients are also available, giving you full access to document management functions over the web. No hosted solution is available for ViewWise.

Batch-Scanning for Importing into a Document Management System

SimpleIndex enable users to export files directly to the PaperVision and ViewWise batch import format, by means a 1-click scanning interface and powerful dynamic Optical Character Recognition to these systems. Meanwhile, Digitech PaperFlow is the recommended scanning interface for PaperVision. It too has built-in exports ' but these also allow exports to almost any document management system, so it can be used no matter which one you choose. PaperFlow is more suitable for multi-user scanning and indexing configurations, while SimpleIndex is better for desktop or distributed capture scenarios.

Systems for Use with Multifunctional Printers and Copiers

Amongst software designed for use with network-attached multifunctional printer and copiers are DocuLex Goby and SimpleIndex., Additionally, the all-embracing scanning and storage system INVU is a simple to use document scanning, storage and retrieval system preferred by many business equipment owners looking to maximise their document handling workflow efficiency.

The architecture of INVU software makes it a big hit with IT Managers. It integrates seamlessly with legacy systems, appearing as an icon in the toolbar and dovetailing neatly with complex packages like Sage or ACT

Purchasing and Using Membership Software

If you are efficient in running your membership site and you promote it well you will gain a good reputation for your site. The short answer – NO. There is simply no way you can turn your computer into your very own “satellite dish” – which means that NO, you cannot get free HBO on your desktop. Do not lose hope, though. You have other choices. We will teach you how to concurrently or alternately check your email, surf the internet, watch TV or sports or movies, and even enjoy broadcasted music. The choices are astounding.

Here are your choices;

You Could Tune In

There is good news, however – you may be able to use your PC to access free television broadcasts from different channels such as BBC News, Discovery Channel, Comedy Central, and ESPN, among many others provided that you have internet connection. You can do this by visiting the official website of the station you want to watch – they will likely provide you with a link that lets you watch recent – sometimes even live – broadcasts. You can also use sites like Google Video, Channel Chooser, Free TV Online, WWI TV, and World TVPC.

You Could Use PCTV Cards

If you have some extra cash lying around, then give PCTV cards a try. There are two types pf PCTV cards – one type can be installed into your computer, and the other is an external unit that you can plug into your USB port. Both can receive broadband connection via satellite. The requests are placed using telephone lines, but the data is picked up at the speed of 40 MB/second through the satellite dish.

PCTV cards work in a different way. The most common use your computers infrastructure to decipher satellite signals and therefore give you free-to-air digital TV and radio. Such cards run on processors that let you watch TV using another window even while your computer runs other programs.

You may connect your PC or laptop directly to a satellite dish using Hauppauge 3000 products or via an internet cable. You can even use a satellite box. Dish TV and Direct TV both advise you to use a connection by means of their proprietary satellite television receiver box.

You typically need at least Pentium II (about 333 MHz) with Microsoft Windows 98/ ME/ 2000/ XP in order to watch satellite TV on your computer. You will also need a USB slot, sound card, plus a CD Rom drive. You may also need to install Windows media player, quick time player, or real player.

Purchasing and Using Membership Software

If you are efficient in running your membership site and you promote it well you will gain a good reputation for your site. They can be removed safely, you are not deleting them. Shortcuts are waste of space. I can still easily access everything. I show you how in a second.
To remove all items from desktop:
You can simple click on the icon one time, then click delete on your keyboard. I deleted my computer and recycle bin that way. They are simple removed from the desktop.
To easily access them if you need:
Click Start, then Click Run.
Type in: C:/
Hit OK. A window opens. Click the icon (there is a folder and an arrow pointing up) Click that another time and you will see My Computer, Recycle bin etc.
Once you get used to it, you find it easy. Memorize a bit the steps, that is all it takes.
Step Two
Now change your XP settings to classic. (this will also remove desktop wallpaper and change colors of your computer to default, which is blue, but it will boost your speed)
Right click on desktop (where there was my computer icon) select properties. You have a drop down menu. Select Classic Theme then click ok.
Step Three
Now, right click on your start button. Select properties. Then select Classic Start Menu. Then click Customize.
At the bottom, place a tick mark next to:
Display Run
Enable Dragging And Dropping
Remove the tick mark of all the rest.
Hit OK.
Now click on Taskbar at the top.
Place a tick mark next to:
Keep the taskbar on top of other windows.
Group similar task buttons together.
Untick the rest.
At the bottom place a tick next to:
Hide inactive icons.
Finally hit OK.
Step four
Now click on Start, then Programs. What you do not need, therefore you do not use regularly right click on it and select delete.
I have removed everything apart ones that I could not - the Startup Folder. You can still access those things by going to:
Click Start, then Run
Type in c:/program files
There you can see the programs of your computer. Again you just have to get used to using the run command and everything is easy. By now you should have seen a little improvement.

Samsung WEP410 Bluetooth Headset

Bluetooth headsets make up one of the fastest wireless markets in the US and around the world. Do you not have enough WoW gold to make your goals met in a timely fashion? Are you being hindered by character poverty? If so, we have the answer, the WoW Gold Guide.
First, a disclaimer. Lots of sites will claim to teach you how to make thousands of WoW gold in an hour or a day. Nearly all of them are scams, either relying on bugs that were patched by Blizzard up to a year or more ago or relying on client hacks or hacked .dll files.
The first ones are asking for money for an e-book that gives advice that won t work (and won t refund your money, either!), while the second one runs the risk of getting your account banned and your characters deleted by Blizzard, which runs a warden client to check for malicious hacks and cheats in the code.
What we re describing is a legitimate strategy guide that will legally let you accumulate WoW gold in the shortest period possible. These include the comprehensive Level 40 Gold Guide, to let you learn the fastest way possible to get your first mount, solo.
It s also got the Ultimate Gold Guide, with the best strategies to maximize your gold per hour earning, including advice on professions and how to level them up fast.
If that weren t enough, the WoW Gold Guide has a Reputation Guide that will show you how to get to exalted status in the fastest and best way possible, including how to get 500-700 reputation points per hour with Cenarion Cycle.
Plus the most extensive class and build guides for World of Warcraft, optimizing talent builds for Player versus Player and Player versus Everyone, or a balanced build for both. It also includes the World of Warcraft itemization Guide, which describes (from reverse engineering) the system that Blizzard uses for balancing items and where they made mistakes on some items!

Business Impact Analysis

Business Impact Analysis is merely a fraction of entire Business Continuity, Business Resumption, and Disaster Recovery Plan which have to be established correctly by an organization to execute the overall Business Continuity Plan. The BIA will also make available information such as if any disaster happens then the overall expenses associated to retrieval of data loss, period of time that will need to recover the loss data, time of manpower that will engage along with their salary , replacement of lost equipment, loss of profit, short and long term effect of disaster event, etc

After the event of September 11 and Katrina made many regulatory authorities as well as organization coming under those regulatory authority to gravely think about to implement proper business resumption plan which will help their organization to manage their usual function even after any small or big disaster happens .

It is having said that BIA is fortitude of Business Resumption or Business Continuity Plan. Whether you use a Mac or a PC, viruses, power surges, hackers, human error, natural disasters, hardware failures, and more are real everyday threats. To keep your data safe and sound, you will first need to back up your files on a regular basis. Secondly, when hard drive failure does occur, data recovery is the only solution.

Of course it is ideal to back up data and avoid the complicated process that is data recovery altogether, but even when you take the necessary steps to prepare for hard drive damage, you might run into problems.

Here are some procedures to follow if you experience trouble.

If a program is not functioning well on your computer, turn the computer off! This may seem a simple task, but shutting down a computer at the moment you notice your hard drive to be working overtime – perhaps you hear unusual sounds (like “cleaning”) – can prevent damage to the disk and data loss. If you let a failed hard drive run, it will eventually self-destruct. Damage to your disk is inevitable in this scenario.

If this is the case, unless you know exactly what you’re doing, don’t fix your computer yourself. Professional expertise is not a luxury in this situation – it is a must. Data recovery is a difficult and sensitive process requiring special tools and a clean environment. Not only will it be tremendously challenging to repair a hard drive on your own, but you might actually make matters worse and ensure irreversible data loss.

There is “do-it-yourself” data recovery software, but be cautious of things like this. With most computer problems of this nature, at-home instructions can be more dangerous than useful. Even if a company boasts that its products and instructions will handle your vulnerable data properly, it is important to be a skeptical consumer.

A local service provider is the average solution. Repair can happen on your own premises and you can be assured that your computer is in good hands. However, there is always the possibility that your hard drive is beyond repair – even for expert technicians – so be prepared to buy a new hard drive altogether; data recovery may not be an option any

Mac Data Recovery Explained

HPS and HFS+ are the Apple Macintosh systems for referencing stored data and hard drives. HFS and HFS+ data recovery methods are uniquely adept for Apple and are not to be confused with NTFS and “fat file” systems, used by Microsoft.

So what are some examples of errors that might require data recovery for Mac’s?

- Unreadable disks
- General disk errors
- No Volume (or Volume that isn’t HFS)
- An uninstalled drive
- Computer cannot find the directory
- Internal file system errors
- Flawed master directory block
- Non-Macintosh disks
- Improper file names
- Segment Loader Error

If you use a Mac, whether for business or pleasure, you must protect your valuable data from hackers, viruses, human error, power surges, hard drive failures, and other unexpected problems. The most essential step to keeping your data safe is to back up files regularly – you should always be prepared for the worst-case scenario. Files, databases, emails, spreadsheets, and all other important data can be easily salvaged if this step is taken.

Mac’s and PC’s both offer limited solutions for data loss. Mac’s are especially susceptible to data loss! But with data recovery, all bets are on.

When encountering data recovery problems, don’t try and fix the problem alone. A hard drive is complicated and repair requires special tools, a clean room environment, and expert technological know-how. If you attempt to take on this task by yourself, not only may you be unable to retrieve the data, but you may also incur further damage on the drive.

But that’s okay, because data recovery assistance and service is only a call away. Skilled technicians can evaluate the lost data and instruct you on how to solve the problem. But don’t expect the job to be done in one day. This kind of repair is challenging; it can take almost a week before your data is recovered.

Data Recovery Services: What To Do When Your Hard Drive Fails

According to most people, there are two types of hard drives: those that have failed and those that will fail. But for folks who use Data Recovery Services, there is a third type of hard drive: one that does not fail.

A hard drive is the most vulnerable part of a computer; it has moving gears and is hence prone to wear and tear. So when you need hard disk data recovery, you must deeply consider the service and practice of the various repair companies in your area. A company that has been around the block more than a few times is ideal.

But more importantly, experts that ask questions and appreciate your situation are a necessity; companies that approach your needs in an impersonal way simply cannot diagnose your computer problems properly. For example, an expert who is on hand to ask specific questions about your hard disk will know whether or not to go about repair with mere software or through more professional means.

There are a variety of problems that lead to hard drive failure. If the hard drive is part of a mirror set, mirrored stripe set, or stripe set with uniformity, then all you will need to do is replace the drive – any lost data will mechanically regenerate.

A local service company can handle all your concerns though. Fixing a hard drive yourself is a tedious process, requiring lots of time and even research. Your next-door neighbor might be a computer geek, but that doesn’t mean his or her advice is remotely accurate. After all, a computer can fail for many different reasons and they are not always easy to pinpoint.

The ideal solution is usually to replace a failed drive and re-establish your backup. This does not always work though, as many people find the necessary backup is outdated or sometimes, non-existent.

If a hard drive is beyond repair, data recovery is obviously not an option. So prepare for unexpected charges; you might have to buy a whole new drive. In this case, just be careful when replacing it, as you don’t want to lose your data.

What is Data loss?

When your data suddenly becomes inaccessible, a data loss is said to have occurred. A data loss can be caused by several factors. Most studies indicate that human error is one of the biggest reasons for data loss. Accidental deletion, handling the data inappropriately, not creating regular manual backups are some of the reasons why data loss occurs due to human errors. Software corruption, virus or hacker attack, and hardware errors are the other reasons cited for data loss.

Consequences of Data Loss

Data loss can create a huge havoc unless a business is adequately protected. Businesses these days have to be extremely efficient. Not only do they have to ensure that the work and transactions occur in a timely manner, but they also have to ensure that their company is able to do in the most financially viable manner.

Data loss can adversely affect both these business objectives. A data loss incident means lost business time and time is literally money. According to recent studies, on an average, recreating 20 MB of data requires approximately 30 hours. This would make you think that companies understand the importance of data loss. However, facts tell us quite the opposite.

Research indicates that 99% of all businesses do not perform daily backups. In addition, approximately 60% of all the data backups are incomplete. The consequences of data loss can be very severe. Recent studies have proved that by the 6th day of a major data loss event, a company is likely to lose 25% of its daily revenue. In addition, 43% of the companies that do not have an adequate data backup and recovery plan in place, shutdown after the data loss incident. Therefore, data loss is one of the major reasons why companies go bankrupt.

Cost of Data Loss

Data loss can spell very bad news for a business if it does not have appropriate disaster management systems. According to recent studies, an average UK Small and Medium Enterprise loses approximately £843 due to data loss caused by virus attack. In addition, the average downtime experienced by the companies is 7.2 hours. Let us analyse some of the costs associated with data loss.

Cost of Continuing the Business Without the Data

One of the most important assets of the company that is not listed on the balance sheet is the company’s data. Records, transactions, or strategies can be an integral part of the company’s database. Imagine a bank representative trying to serve its customer without having any information about the customer’s account. In all probability, the representative will not be able to serve the customer.

How do you go about explaining an irate customer about the data loss problem? Your company will probably try to use all its resources, financial and human, to continue the business in whatever way with the limited means. The company may have to inform its customers as well as clients about the data loss problem and its inability to serve them, as they would have under normal circumstances. If the data loss problem turns out to be a permanent one, the company may have to spend several weeks or months before normal business operations can be restored.

Cost of Recreating the Data

If you are not able to recover your data, you will have to recreate it. Therefore, your physical resources will be directed towards recreating the data. In addition, your employees will also be directing their time and energy in recreating this data.
Under normal circumstances, your resources including your employees would be engaged in creating new business or profits. On the other hand, in a data loss situation, your resources will be trying to minimise the losses without adding any value to the business. The productivity of the company and the employees will be affected due to downtime.

Your company may lose future contracts and if there are any projects in the pipeline, they are likely to get delayed. Therefore, besides the direct losses associated with business downtime, there are indirect losses associated with recreating data in the event of data loss.

Cost of Data Recovery

Data recovery can be an expensive and time-consuming process. If the data loss problem is severe, the recovery can be very expensive. Data recovery can sometimes take days or even weeks. If your company has had a major data loss problem affecting various computers, the cost of data loss can be huge

WoW Im Addicted To An Online Game

Yes, even gamers have the same needs as every other person: a social life, fun stuff and regular day to day stuff like attending school or working at a day to day job. Normally someone plays a game just to get a break of the daily routine, just to relax. One might watch tv in the evening, watch their favourite series on their computer, yet others take the risk of giving WoW a try. That s where it all starts... You start playing because you re just plain bored, but a few days later you ll find yourself being totally sucked into the game, not allowing yourself to do anything other in your spare time.
New players often underestimate the exact type of game which WoW is, and even more important: the time it actually takes to accomplish something in the digital world. They go online to finish just a quest or two, but end up playing way longer than intended. Blizzard obviously did a great job when it comes to creating both a balanced and addictive game play. You re kept busy with constant chains of quests, storyline after storyline, and before you able to realize it, you re several hours further.
Most games prevent you from actually getting addicted to them, due to the fact that there s a certain end of the game. WoW allows you to keep on evolving further and further though, even past the so called end of the game. Building up and maintaining your professions will certainly cost you a lot of time, and other players and guilds will also keep you busy with raids . A raid usually costs several hours to complete normally, but the urge to keep pushing and improving your character and gear is enormous.
You ll soon be confronted with problems when you stop improving your gear endgame, as other players won t stand still, making you weaker in player versus player (PVP) battles, as WoW is based a lot on the actual gear and not on gathered skill points. Even if you dislike raiding a lot, Blizzard still has a special function available though, which will make you good against other much better equipped players. They ll reward you with points and marks, where you will be able to buy your own new great from certain NPCs (computer units). All to make sure you won t get bored and keep on playing.
Addicts often state quitting WoW isn t as hard as it seems, and that they can quite whenever they want. That s exactly where the problem is located though. The problem of addictions in general is that they simply don t -want- to quite or stop. Gaming addictions are a pretty new phenomenon and aren t often easily recognized, which makes it even harder to break the actual addiction.

Making Money In World of Warcraft Gold

Is your character in World of Warcraft poor?

Digital Signage system

This is the era of electronic communication and dynamic of advertising and communication has considerably changed, instead of conventional display advertisement, today digital signage is in vogue. Actually it has been found that this type of advertising has been much more effective and persuades the consumers in a better ways compared to the conventional mode of advertising tools like leaflets, brochures and display advertisements. The leading advertising agencies across the globe are offering digital signage facilities as demand of digital signage has largely gone up in the last decade.

Digital signage and its application process is highly interesting, it is now possible to integrate different interactive ingredients with the help of digital signage which are displayed through large LCD screens. So the fact is pretty clear that the revolution and miniaturization has influenced the mode of advertising. The term “Digital signage” is popular in North America but in Europe is usually called “Narrowcasting” or “Narrowcast networks”. The multicolored banners and the videos attract plenty of consumers, the 3d graphical presentation of the advertisements through the digital signage and the high picture quality are two major points of attraction for these digital signage. At the same time the cost of the advertisement does not vary much, this is also an essential cause behind growing popularity of this kind of advertisements.

The software that are used for display of digital signage are not at all expensive and now institutions like schools, offices and churches are also using the digital signages. In several sports grounds also they are used. Again, in different pharmacy stores digital signage are commonly seen. Prices of LCD Screens are decreasing in almost all countries and as a result popularity and application of Digital signage or Narrowcasting is mounting up. Different software firms are aiming to make more advancements of the software that are associates to this sort of advertisement to make advertising more interactive.

Still, there are several issues that are making companies hesitant to use the Digital signage, while discussing it is prudent to focus on both sides of the coin. It has been noticed that companies and organizations that are following the policy of bulk buying of LCD screens and are promoting the same concept worldwide, are finding digital signage affordable and convenient as a result of economies of scale. On the contrary, the local businesses or a typical pharmacy store (that is not a pharmacy brand or chain of stores) are finding Digital signage costlier. The technology that is used to run these advertisements is intricate if compared to the other forms of product promotion.

Despite several constraints it must be considered that growth of Digital signage has been praiseworthy and it has revolutionized the concept of advertising. Leading global brands have accepted the growth of Digital signage and it is expected that popularity and application of digital signage will grow many folds in the near future.

Online IT Degree – one of the sought after degree

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, over two and a half million jobs were held by information technology professionals such as computer systems analysts, computer programmers and network administrators. By 1997 the company was sufficiently established that it bought the naming rights for the Staples Center, Los Angeles' premier sports and entertainment complex.

Staples, Inc. is the globe's largest office supplies and equipment retail store chain, with more than 1,900 stores worldwide, including locations in the U.S., Canada, Belgium, England, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. A catalog business exists in Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Denmark, Austria and Italy. The company, which began in Massachusetts, markets items like office machines, furniture, computers and business services. Staples-dot-com is its online Web site.

Featuring an extensive amount of services to its customers, Staples has copy and print centers for things like faxing, business cards and custom stamps. Stores also feature UPS pickup and delivery during business hours. The copy center is literally a store inside a store, especially since most of them are in a separate section from the rest of the main store.

Specific stores offer Staples EasyTech, an in-store and on-site service for computer repair, upgrades, as well as home and office networking setup.

Because of industry competition, Staples has been testing a program named 'Heavy Up,' mainly using stores in New York State, since 2005, to experiment with increasing the services offered by the Tech Center. A later test, called 'Double Up' began running early in 2006 in unspecified markets. This is all being done to gain an advantage on competing services like Best Buy's Geek Squad and Circuit City's Firedog.

In 2006, Staples also established the 'Easy Resident Tech' program, which featured one or two repair technicians to do in-store computer repairs during business hours. On-site work, though, is available when desired.

Starting in Fall 2007, the company established a 'Security by Staples' initiative, which attempts to educate customers how to avoid identity theft, data loss, and other similar Internet threats. It also provides a wide variety of products and services to keep customers' identities, as well as personal and business data, safe from common security threats.

Who Put M And E In Computer?

My COMPUTER is my friend. My computer IS my friend. My computer is my FRIEND. No matter how I said it, I couldn't convince myself. This past winter it was frozen more than Grand Forks, North Dakota.

When I have a problem with my computer, my husband offers to share his until mine is fixed; but that's like taking him off life support. He invariably gasps for air to tell me I could have bought a new computer with the money I'd spent on repairs.

Computers are being made better, smaller and lighter every day. There's no right time to buy one - but I did. I bought a notebook computer. If buying it was a mistake, it would be a small mistake.

Then I bought software to fight viruses, sweep spies and improve word processing. When my computer left the store, it had more new programs than NBC.

Although compute means to make sense, there's a lot about computers that doesn't compute to me. I don't know what makes software soft. I don't know if a gigabyte hurts. I don't know how a computer works - I just want it to.

Unfortunately, by day two it wasn't working. My husband had killed it with kindness by installing a second, anti-virus program. When the program was removed, my computer was born again.

Thinking our working relationship might be better if we were on a first-name basis, I named it Steinbeck. I spend a lot of time with my computer - why not spend it in good company. Besides...it was a much better name than the one's my husband had been calling it.

I gave Steinbeck the dignified Times Roman font and made it size sixteen so he wouldn't have to wait for me to find my glasses before we could work together. In spite of my thoughtfulness, however, Steinbeck continues to act like a guy I dated in the tenth grade - trying to do things I don't want to do.

I only want Steinbeck to e-mail, connect me to the internet and word process. Checking my grammar and spelling, as well as looking things up in the dictionary and thesaurus should keep him busy - but allow him time turned off for good behavior. After we've gotten to know each other, I suppose he can occasionally Google me.

Cisco CCNP Certification / BSCI Exam Tutorial: Comparing IRDP And HSRP

To pass the BSCI exam, you need to know the difference between IRDP and HSRP. While they have the same basic function, the operation and configuration of each are totally different.

The aim of both is to allow hosts to quickly discover a standby router when the primary router fails. IRDP is commonly used by Windows DHCP clients and several Unix variations, but you do see it in Cisco routers as well. IRDP is defined in RFC 1256.

IRDP routers will multicast Hello messages that host devices hear. If a host hears from more than one IRDP router, it will choose one as its primary and will start using the other router if the primary it's chosen goes down.

HSRP is a Cisco-proprietary protocol that is designed for quick cutover to a secondary router if the primary fails, but the host devices don't "see" either the primary or secondary router. The hosts use a virtual router as their default gateway. This virtual router has its own IP and MAC address! All the while, the router chosen as the primary is actually the one doing the routing. If the primary router goes down, the secondary router quickly takes over with no major interruption to network services.

The HSRP routers communicate by multicasting updates to 224.0.0.2, and its through these hellos that the HSRP routers decide which router is primary and which is secondary. HSRP is defined in RFC 2281.

The configuration of each of these will be covered in a future tutorial. In the meantime, I urge you to read the RFCs mentioned in this article, and visit www.cisco.com/univercd to read about the configurations and options available for both of these vital protocols.

Cisco CCNA Certification Exam Tutorial: Configuring Dialer Profiles

The most common method of configuring ISDN is with dialer maps, but dial information can also be configured on a logical interface. To pass the CCNA exam, you must know how to configure and troubleshoot both dialer maps and dialer profiles.

Dialer Profiles allow different dialing information to be configured onto logical interfaces. The logical interfaces may have different dialing destinations, different remote router names, etc., but they’ll be using the same physical interface.

Dialer strings are used on dialer profiles. Note that each logical interface has a different IP address, a different remote router to dial, and a different dialer string, but they will be using the same physical interface to dial out. The commands dialer pool and dialer pool-member are used to link the logical and physical interfaces. The number following each command must match for the logical interface to correctly bind to the physical interface.

R1(config)#interface dialer0

R1(config-if)#ip address 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0

R1(config-if)#encapsulation ppp

<. The SPIDs are configured on the physical interface as well.

Configuring dialer profiles can be a little tricky at first, and the best way to master this skill is to get real hands-on practice in your own CCNA / CCNP home lab or a rack rental service. Either way, hands-on is the best practice. Best of luck in your CCNA studies!

Your Business can suffer due to absence of Digital certificate on your website. SSL (Secure Socke

It is very important to take the protection against online information larceny, because it's getting very easy for people to share digital products. Information theft is a type of computer safety and security risk and it's defined as thieving someone’s private or confidential information. It’s very dangerous to get the information stolen as this can cause as much damage, or possibly more then hardware or software theft.

Most of the systems on the way of your data can see what you send. A lot of companies try to stop information from being stolen by applying some user identification and authentication controls.
These constrictions are most promising for protecting computers along a company's premise. However, to protect information on the Internet and on networks, companies use a handful of encryption methods like digital certificates and SSL security. SSL is an industry standard and is used by millions of websites in the protection of their online transactions with their customers. Encryption refers to the process of converting data into an unreadable form. Encrypted data is like any other data because you can send it through a lot of options, but to read it you must decrypt or decipher it into a more readable form with the help of public and private keys provided. Throughout the encryption process, the unencrypted data or input is known as plaintext and the encrypted data, or output is known as cipher text. To be able to create an SSL connection a web server requires an SSL Certificate. When you choose to activate SSL on your web server you will be prompted to complete a number of questions about the identity of your website and your company. Your web server then creates two cryptographic keys - a Private Key and a Public Key. To encrypt information, the programmer converts the plaintext into cipher text using some type of encryption key. An encryption key is the programmed formula that the person who receives the data uses to decrypt the cipher text. There are varieties of encryption or algorithm methods. However, with an encryption key formula, you will be using more then one of these techniques.

Most common example is a nasty individual stealing credit cards so they can make illegal purchases on another person's account. If information is transmitted over a network then it has a very high chance for nasty users to capture the information.

A digital signature is a type of encrypted code that an individual, website, or company pastes to an electronic document to make sure that the individual is who they claim to be. The code will most likely consist of the user name and a hash of usually part of the message. The complexities of the SSL protocol remain invisible to your customers. Instead, their browsers provide them with a key indicator to let them know they are currently protected by an SSL encrypted session - the lock icon in the lower right-hand corner, clicking on the lock icon displays your SSL Certificate and the details about it. All SSL Certificates are issued to either companies or legally accountable individuals. The main purpose behind using digital signatures is to make sure that it's not a swindler participating in the transaction. So, digital signatures help narrow down e-mail frauds. A digital signature can also make sure that contents of a message have not been changed.

Typically, an SSL Certificate will contain your domain name, your company name, your address, your city, your state and your country. It will also contain the expiration date of the Certificate and details of the Certification Authority responsible for the issuance of the Certificate. When a browser connects to a secure site it will retrieve the site's SSL Certificate and check that it has not expired, it has been issued by a Certification Authority the browser trusts, and that it is being used by the website for which it has been issued.

Many ecommerce websites will usually have digital certificates. A certificate authority (CA) is an authorized company or individual for that matter that has the ability to issue and verify digital certificates. There are several of websites that offer a digital certificate. One of the popular Global Certification authorities is MindGenies

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://computers-sansar.blogspot.com/2007/12/your-business-can-suffer-due-to-absence.html' title='Your Business can suffer due to absence of Digital certificate on your website. Training courses designed for rapid learning however, can get you feeling confident in just a matter of days. There are any number of reasons why you or your employees could benefit from taking Microsoft Access training courses; from improving efficiency, to seeing data in new ways, to building better relationships with your customers through superior tracking of customer inquiries and orders.

Most people know that Access is a database program, but since many people haven't explored it in detail, they aren't sure what they might learn in Microsoft Access training. Here are 3 interesting and useful things you'll learn after just two or three days of Microsoft Access courses that could drastically change the way your business operates.

Keeping information accurate
As you'll learn in Microsoft Access courses, a database is only as accurate as the information that is inside of it. For example, if you were to enter customer address information using the term "Slough" for one customer, "SL" for another, and "Slou" for another, this would create a royal mess in your database.

If you were to run a query to locate all of your customers in "SL" you would miss important data that should have been included because the information entered was not consistent. In Microsoft Access training courses, you'll learn how to create a system of checks and balances to ensure that no matter how many people are using your database that the information entered will be accurate.

Making it simple for others to use your database
Many, many times, when one person sets up a database or a spreadsheet, the system they design becomes so complicated that they are the only ones who can use it. In a company where productivity and teamwork is essential, it doesn't make sense to design systems that can only be used by one or two people.

With Access training, you and your employees will learn how to organize data logically so that others can easily input and extract information. You will also learn how to create switchboards, splash screens, startup options, and most importantly, how to keep your database healthy when there are more hands touching it than just your own.

Splitting a database
Though it's good to have more than one person work on a database, it can be disastrous if too many people with too many different interests are adding data. Once people in other departments see how well an Access database is working for you, they may want to access some of the information for their own needs.

Instead of giving everyone access to your database, you can split the database so that each group has access to important data, but can work with it in a way that makes sense for them and that won't compromise the integrity of your data.

These are just three of the many things you'll learn over a few days in Microsoft Access Training Courses. Companies that offer Microsoft Access training courses in London can get you or your staff up to speed on just about everything you need to know about Microsoft Access in just a few days of hands on training.

Technology online

The dramatic rise in demand for technology has seen a rise in the demand for professionals within this field.
